The Summoner is a wizard class that is focused around summoning and controlling Daemon units. The skills available to the Summoner also allow increased XP for all units summoned, whether they are summoned via Summoning or another spell sphere.

The Summoner is a top notch wizard class with a primary focus in one of the better spell spheres in Warlords Battlecry 3. The power that can be unleashed from the Summoning spellbook usually manifests itself in swarms of high level Imps. If that doesn't sound threatening, players may feel so when they realise half their base was destroyed by a group of them right at the start of the game.
There can be no doubt that the Summoning spell sphere pairs well with the Daemon race thanks to all research bonuses carrying on to all the summoned units. Although the Daemon Summoner does pretty much nothing to expand the weaponry of the Daemons, the powerful research bonuses carried on to the summoned units is easily enough to frighten any enemy hero.
The Dark Elves also have a nice synergistic relationship with Summoning magic. The extra mine fillers in the form of Quasits and the vastly expanded arsenal works really well with them. Access to the research which boosts mana regeneration by 300% is a very nifty touch over the Daemon Summoner as well. In short, the Dark Elf Summoner is more proficient with magic in every way to the Daemon Summoner, but lacks the research bonus buffs on the summoned units.
- It is best to slay the Summoner before any mana regeneration research kicks in. By that time, it will become much more difficult to kill the Summoner as clouds of Imps and even Daemons are a threat to almost anything.
- A unit with a good resistance stat, resistance to cold and the ability to attack air should give the Summoner a run for their money. Unfortunately, there aren't many of those available (Wraith, Shadow and Cryohydra).
- Units with projectiles that pierce through multiple opponents and good archer swarms can also help to attack Summoners since Imps are vulnerable to piercing and clouds of them won't like Barbarian spears or Minotaur Axethrower axes smashing through them.
