In the begining all things were one, all ages and all beings dreadfully mixed in a great confusion where nothing could exist because all existing things were a great mud that was not. From this mud a mind sprang, Sirian, born from the essence of all things he had knowledge of all things, and this knowledge confused him since the fate of all ages was clear to him.
And he first cried, since he knew the hateful nature of all things, and from this despair A new being was born, retorted, a great hatred consumed her, Balora, the first of Sirian’s daughters, she had knowledge of half of Sirian’s mind, and she hated him, yet she didn’t dare defy him, since he was taller, so she tried to seduce him with lascivious words, but Sirian despaired by the cold darkness she had surrounded him with.
From this despair the first light was born, different from the first void he had known in Balora’s heart. And from that moment the confusion left Sirian’s mind, and so he left the mud forever. Because Iris had been born from the second part of Sirian’s knowledge, Bright beyond what words can tell, not even Elves can look at her directly unless they forget their own selves, as men can’t look at midday sun. Sirian loved Iris forever, yet he didn’t forget Balora.
Once Iris had saved Sirian from Balora’s perversion, she spoke to Balora with curiosity because Iris couldn’t understand her, but Balora answered with hatred to her kind words. So Iris told her –Nothing have we in common, nor our thoughts, nor our actions, nor our souls, be gone!- and Balora replied -You have no authority to command me, I go where I wish, and do only my will –.
So a great fight started between the two goddesses, the strife was unstoppable, yet Sirian didn’t interfere, his wisdom told him any measure or sentence would only postpone the fight. In this first war the mud below the goddesses was agitated, and the beings in there, each decided which goddess to follow, and they had several children, according to their nature.
Balora’s children all inherited her hatred, and an obscene love for themselves, they had all suffered evil themselves, and only wished to share the pain and the disgrace to others, they were known as daemons, manifestations of pure evil, born of chaos and Balora’s will. Some were much stronger than others, particularly eight evil spirits who brought all kinds of doom.
First was born Melkor, whom even more than his mother was ever cursed to a great void that consumed him, so he was always devouring souls, and each one did nothing but increase his hunger and his emptiness.
Second was Gorgon, whose only wish in existence was to undo the goods Iris’s sons had brought to existence.
Third was Antharg, whose body was corrupt beyond all filth, and was pleased to corrupt others in mind and body.
Fourth was Ymorgia, who was hated the most by her brothers, and gave birth to many twisted and foul creatures, such as kobolds, orcs, goblins, trolls, and ogres.
Fifth were the twin children Aranea and Kargoth, both born in monstrous spider forms, and who bred uncountable spider descendants, and were later adored by the rancorous dark elves.
Sixth was, Sartek, larger than all his brothers, strong, and when he was born he slaughtered all other daemons, and he kept fighting ever since, without mattering the foe, nothing pleased him more than the sheer madness of other creatures in battle.
Last, from Balora’s deepest cold of heart, Bane was born, and from the moment his existence begun, he condemned the souls of all future newborns to know, and all creatures that were born after him were obliged to look at his gaze, some say Bane was not born from chaos, but from Sirian, because Sirian had not fought on either side until that, and he understood both sides of the conflict. What happens to the living after they meet Bane, nobody knows, but Bane, Balora, and Sirian, yet Sirian has promised justice will be made to those touched by Bane’s cold gaze.
Iris had several children with Sirian, since he loves light more than any other good, except his justice, Iris’s children were all the powers of Nature, and brave warriors in war, while it lasted, those who were not powers of the world developed a love to justice, and bowed to Sirian, yet they took part in the war to Iris’s side, they never looked at Balora, not even askance, they were known as archons, who are the messengers of Sirian and the soldiers of Iris, they were soon hated and envied by the daemons, so the war became more terrible. The greater children of Iris were all conceived by Sirian, and were given lordship to the forces of Nature.
First was Emrik a tough and inflexible lord, who owns all metals and gems in the earth and gives shape to the Mountains with a will of slow determination, from mountains he created the giants, enormous and with the strength of mountains, but when the giants felt strong and many enough they defied their father, and in response Ermik cursed them to be as brute as they were strong, and from this curse giants left the bright path and some fought in the same side with Balora’s children.
Second was Miridine, the lady of all water, hers are the seas, who obey her caprice, and fountains in the deepest caves in the earth.
Third Lurinth, who loves and protects all things that grow in the earth, from trees tall as towers, to the silent mushrooms, She wears green, and has a venerable beauty, sometimes like a great blossom tree and sometimes like a small daisy.
Fourth were twins Couatl and Celune, Couatl was a bright god whose skin shined like Iris’s golden light, when she is angered, and Celune was bright as well, but she shined with a silvery light of serenity. The golden and silver gods would later power over the sun and moon
Fifth was Lobriss, who was light as an archon feather, and has a subtle voice, yet he more often spoke a silent language only sages can understand, he is master of all winds, and his domain reaches that of his heavenly mother.
Sixth was Tempest, he was brought to existence by Iris, to stop the terrible attacks by Sartek, the daemon lord of Strife, so Tempest was the celestial lord of strife, and he is a spirit of anger, who finds pleasure in storms, and was later god of all non-civilized men.
Last of Iris’s sons was Morannin, whom is the first father of dwarves, he had special friendship with Emrik, and mastered the soul of the rocks, it was he, who invented the runes, symbols with inherent magic in them.
From his high residence, Sirian saw how the war between the two mayor goddesses raged and grew, and he noticed as the original mud disappeared as the goddesses conceived new beings and those conceived others. So he decided to put an end to the destruction caused by the conflict.
So he descended to the lower plane where the two goddesses fought, and he ordered them to make a truce, and spoke to them –I have seen that which I already knew, that your differences won’t be conciliated, and I tell you that if you continue this discussion the world will never be made, and there will not be a prize or a reason to exist for either side winning, because you depend of each other to be- to which Iris responded –I wish the world to exist, yet my children haven’t been able to give order to it due to the war, but I don’t see the way to make it- and Balora, seeing farther than Iris attempted to grasp victory cunningly, so she answered- If we maintain the truce until the world is made I swear over my father Sirian that I will contribute to it’s making and so will my descendants, yet I don’t know what will result if our children habit the same lands- this she said knowing that her children in their free will would start the fight while Iris’s children would never expect it, this way she hoped to win supremacy over Iris.
But Sirian was master of all knowledge, and read in Balora’s heart the falseness and in Iris’s innocence. So, he made use of his authority and sentenced –The world will be not develop under the influence of either goddess neither of their children, You will retire from it for ever, until the time has come to decide the fate of your difference. But the world won’t be left uninhabited. There is few of the remaining chaos left, and the mud has been reduced to clay, from it, you will create each a race of beings with free will, and I will create a third, and with deeds and wars of their own, they will decide the fate of your strife-.
Once the sentence had been made, both goddesses called their army of descendants, resigned to the First Father’s will. Sirian created two new planes of existence, he put above a heaven for Iris and her children, the archons, and a hell for Balora and the daemons, in middle he designed for a new world to be, and named it, Etheria, and before it’s creation he took the clay remaining from the original chaotic mud and divided it in three parts, one he gave to Iris, other to Balora and other he kept.
Balora took the piece of clay given to her, but seeing it formless, she despised it and in turn gave it to her daughter Ymorgia, who gave it a twisted form, reflecting the ugliness of her own soul. The race born from her pottery had some of the power of the chaos they were born from, since Ymorgia didn’t change them fully.
Iris didn’t make use of their piece of clay either, instead she gave it to her daughter Lurinth, who then made use of all her creative arts, in the sculpting of this clay she put all her love and gave it a supernatural beauty, the ultimate of the creations of nature, In them she put some of immortality, yet doing this she condemned all her other creations to the mortality of time. And Iris seeing that her daughter’s pottery was good, and beautiful, took pride on the part of this creation given to her and blessed it, so they had light in their eyes, and with these eyes they could see farther than any mortal, she gave them as well the power to heal their own wounds, as she knew they would have to fight.
Sirian formed his piece of clay with wisdom, to this race he gave strange gifts, abilities similar to his, to be all kinds of things, to know the worse and the best. Some would even become wise, and would have the gift of foretelling. And seeing this creatures were godlike, and not wishing them to wield excessive power in Etheria, he bound them to Bane’s rule, and this was his gift to the youngest of his descendants.
Sirian took the sculptures and gave them life, and freewill, and from the clay three races were born: orcs, elves, and men, to decide the doom of all times.
After doing this Sirian spoke to all beings gathered there –The time is now, you will be apart from each other for long ages, so I will give those who wish so, the freedom to leave the side of their mother goddess and inhabit Etheria, those who choose to quit the strife will take part in the formation of Etheria, and will be given rule over the elements. Those who choose to remain with their lady will have to quit to Etheria, and will not set feet in it unless freely called by those already in it. Whatever you choose you won’t be guilty to me.
Next all beings existing chose their alliance, All of Iris’s mayor children chose Etheria, and became the powers of Nature, yet they quit to the service of their mother, only Lurinth chose to remain with Iris, along with all the archons, who went to heaven, and rarely came to Etheria.
As for Balora’s progeny, all of her eight children wished to leave her, but Sirian saw they were nearly as evil as her, and wouldn’t quit the strife, so he didn’t admit them in the Etheria. Only Ymorgia was left free in Etheria, the other seven were put in hell with their mother, but since they had chose to leave her they were released from her authority, and became daemon lords in the hell prepared for them, and there they dwelt for a long time.
To Etheria also went the race of dragons, born from chaos in time immemorial, there is no record as to which is side they were from, and were beings who didn’t easily tolerate other will than theirs, very powerful, and with the power to breath different elements, had they the shape of enormous, winged reptiles, and came in all shapes and sizes, and their king was a huge Cold dragon called Ragnar, who was said to be immortal.
Also the Fey came to Etheria in that time, beautiful creatures, invulnerable to all kinds of suffering, they were creations, some by Lurinth and some by Emrik, yet they always considered themselves a single race, since they had the same nature and means of reproduction. Their only occupation was to increase the beauty and caprice of nature, as well as naughty jokes to mortals.
At some time after the creation of the Etheria, once Emrik and Miridine had put their reigns apart, and Lurinth’s trees were spread in dense forests, Emrik created the race of dwarves, of stone he made them, and hence they were tough, and tolerant to pain, their will inflexible to the point dwarven stubbornness later became legendary. They received their father’s ability with metals, gems and rocks, and in the use of these elements few ever compared with them, and none beat them. Emrik also taught them in the lore of Runes.
Unified Etherian History “The Age of twilight, and the second War”Edit
Etheria was born from the concealment of Iris’s oldest children, who were the ones deciding about it’s order, Emrik gave it’s strength to the earth, height to the mountains, and also dug many veins int the bones of rock, there he hid richness untold, richness enough to satisfy all needs but no greed. And Miridine gave birth to the majesty of oceans, whose caprice is under her command.
And once, earth was behind their feet and ski over their heads. The gods rested, and then, when all gods went to their respective palaces, deep within their domains, and out of the sight of others than their selves.
The land had just been made, there was no other light, than that of the stars Celune had made in her own image, so that was called the age of twilight, because it’s between the Dark Age and the age of Sun and the Moon. Also, in the tropical realms, between, the North Tundra and the Southern Continent, a great forest laid, a man could have walked under the trees, from East to West without ever being able to look at the stars.
It was at this time that the father dragons, came out of their lairs, because, ever since they came to Etheria, in the first Dark Age that the gods had spent in the formation of the continents, the dragons had had to hide from the terrible powers used to build Etheria’s body. But when they came out, the land was still hot and red from Emrik’s forge, Volcanoes, and lava in the Equatorial regions, and enormous and cruel Ice in both North and South, the dragons, had been waiting, not only in deeps in the rock, but also, in the frozen tundra, in dense forests and the highest skies, and in the waiting, they had changed their nature, acquiring the essence of that place, they had came from, the first Fathers of the dragons, whose names have all been lost, but one.
The one was a green Dragon whose voice was acid, and whose spit could melt the toughest skin he was the lord of Swamp Dragons, from a region south of the twilight forest, in the Southern Continent. He was slain during the first war, against the Forestmasters.
The second was a red Dragon, breathing fire, furious, and unstoppable, it is said that no
fire was ever hotter than his breath, that could burn all things in this world, even those made by the gods, and despite godly protection. Even when this first Fire Dragon was slain by the Dragon Knights, in Ages following, his issue was nearly as strong as him.
Third, came the Thunder Father, an enormous dragon who descended from the skies, he was rumoured to have had a special friendship with Tempest the God of Battle and Storms, and that it was he who taught, the Storm Dragon of the power of lightning. He was slain many Ages later by Sartek, the Harbinger of War, near the Plains of Ar, when he was helping the Arioc Barbarians against the blood lust of minotaurs.
The Fourth was the antithesis of the Fire Father, a Cold Dragon, the Ice in his heart is unknown to the living, and in later ages, he and his descendants allied undead, and other ghostly creatures, the Frost Father, and the weakest of the four is the only one rumoured to have survived to the present times, and the only one whose name is still remembered, “Ragnar” the last of the Dragonlords, he was last seen near a Mountain pass near Khazdull that was ever since known as Ragnar’s Pass.
During some time the dragons wandered over the land, unexplored, and founded each, a civilization, the Great Fathers were apart for many centuries, having almost no Knowledge of each other’s deeds, but few time after establishing in their respective realms, they, started to feel in their fierce hearts, that their future years of glory were, growing shorter.
Many centuries passed until the Dragonlords saw, their fears become true, since they, each received in their palaces, the visit of a very small messenger, strange, to their eyes, with well-proportioned body, and long ears, and a shine in the skin. It was a messenger from the Forestmasters, who declared, their domain over all of Etheria, from their Dreamholds of the Twilight Forest.
The emissaries were slain mercilessly, by the Dragonlords, but so the dragons started an unexpectedly terrible war, Dragons came roaring and breathing elements over the Twilight Forest, in this terrible flight, wings blew the trees, and great extensions of the forest were burnt, frozen, or left deserted.
Swam Dragons from the south, Frost dragons from the North, and Fire Dragons from the Volcanic Regions of East, and Storm Dragons from a Western Isle, located in a bay known as the Bay of storms. They all descended over the Crystal towers of the Fey, after deserting the forest of wonders, and in front of the Fey towers, the Dragonlords dirst met, and there they found the doom of their empires, since the Fey had the strongest army in Etheria, they were fierce and versed in the Lore of Nature, and seeing their beloved trees killed, a wild anger came to them, and the enormous fleet Dragons was hit by magic bolts from the crystal towers, and these bolts hurt their flesh as no steel could, and many fairies came flying and attacked the dragons, all over their bodies and covered their wings, with needles, they pierced their eyes. In this confusion of giant wings and scales, fire and magic, the dragons were brought to the ground, with a great roars, they crashed with the towers, but didn’t damage them, in front of the Fey towers, the last battle of the dragonlords was fought, and both dragons and Fey were decimated.
Dragons were always few in number, and it is said that in the battle of the magic towers, eight of ten dragons were killed. The remaining dragons fled, and never returned to their original kingdoms, they all hid in caves and other hideouts, dragons reproduce only once every 100 years, so their population never grew to it’s original glory, also, the lesser races developed a greed for the great treasures dragons liked to gather, so they became, professional dragon slayers, which decreased even more their number.
As for the Fey, their days were also approaching to their end, the twilight Forest was now barely half of it’s original half. And the fey, despite not having population problems, they lacked the power to rebuild their original Dreamholds. Also, the gods were becoming active again, and were about to put end to that age, as they had done with the ones previous.
Unified Etherian History part 4 “The Age of the lights and the dawn of elves”Edit
Elves had been in Etheria from the dark ages, and had endured the violence of Etheria’s making. But during the age of twilight, dragonlord’s will had had them subjugated, as slaves; they had suffered particularly from the fiery dragons of the west, who they would later hunt almost to extinction.
Seeing that their masters didn’t come back from the battle, elves of the west dared come out of the mines where they had been enslaved. And they contemplated the stars, and the great ski of twilight, whose beauty made all things endure the wounds of time. It was then, that their mother goddess, Lurinth, saw them, and pitying their previous suffering, gifted them, with the sight of Celune’s Stars the immortality of their kind. And ever since there has been divine light in the eye of those elves still loyal to Lurinth.
A great battle had raged in the twilight forest, and the gods, sensing the anger of dragons arise, feared the end of that Age, they hence, decided to consult Sirian’s will about the fate of Etheria, now that dragonlords were gone and reduced, and the forest of wonder had been destroyed. And after some time of speaking in the ring of judgment, they became aware, of Sirian’s will, because Sirian didn’t speak to them, they could only decide once they had consulted each other, and in the discussion it was that Sirian’s will was known.
So they decided to put an end to the great twilight that spread over Etheria. So, Lurinth, from her high residence at a side of Iris, called forth her brothers Couatl, and Celune, and they descended to Etheria, and the golden and silvery spheres were both seen coming from the high skies. They came to the Ring of Judgment, and stood in middle, and the gods seeing their great brightness, gave them the task of bringing light to the world. It was their sentence that in this age all things born were under the rule of time, that all things made in this Age, saw the sun rise and set in their existences, and then, to endure the long night of the spirit.
The time came when the first dawn came to Etheria, and Couatl, dressed in a magnificent cloak of gold and light, rose over the far East. And so started the time of elves and men, the real time, because in the previous ages, time was silent, and seconds passed as fast or as slow as many lives of men, so no real measure of time could be.
And elves, and men, and orcs saw Couatl’s rising, and they knew the world was to change. Orcs, had had a cautious and fearful existence during the age of twilight, they hated stars, but didn’t fear them, but Couatl’s Sight did scare them, and they hid even deeper in the earth, they only came out after many years of careful scouting, and discovered the sun and the moon were not dangerous, yet they always feared the bright faces.
Men were few, they had lived primitive lives, knowing barely the arts of hunting for living, despite there was not much to hunt, they were, nearly as dirty or stinky as orcs, and elves didn’t believe they were Sirian’s children. When they saw the sunrise, a great hope filled their uneducated hearts, and for a moment they knew that that light would bring glory, and civilization, to the descendants of their descendants. They adored the golden circle often as the god it was, often with more reverence than to the first gods, and with many names, for the names of their gods they fought, at times, but Sirian, Iris and Balora only few among humans ever adored, or knew of their existence.
Elven eyes were not like men’s, because were light is, light doesn’t hurt, they could see through Couatl’s blinding cloak, and felt joy when he announced them their freedom, and gave them the salute of their high lady, Iris.
Celune also came from the distant horizons, following her brother, in a silvery chariot, driven by swans. She brought light in the night, but her strength was not the same, it varied with the days, growing and dying, she was a symbol of rebirth.
After coming out from the mines, the elves were disorganized, and remained there for a while. Eventually they elected a Queen, Elhana, who designated herself the Ice Queen, she who would oppose the might of the fire dragons, because the remaining dragons had returned and they were not as few as the other dragon races.
Soon she decided she had to guide her people out of that dangerous land, but she didn’t find the way to do so, since they were surrounded by mountains, and dragons laid them siege, the way out would be harsh, and dangerous, she knew dragons would decimate them, if the mountains didn’t. But her eldest son, Lunarion the scout, made a great discovery, he found a creature on four legs, of great beauty, a horse, the elves saw horses were noble and smart, and spoke to them, and horses listened, and agreed to help elves.
Queen Elhana, founded the order of knight dragons, who were elves mounting the newly found horses, the first professional dragon slayers. With this guard, the elven people crossed the mountains. But as it was foreseen, the dragons descended over them, and presented battle. While dragon knights fought the rest of elves fled, and here, Lunarion gave a terrible wound against the Father of Fire, the golden lord of fire dragons, but when he was about to give him the deathblow, the dragon offered his service to the lord of dragon knights, who had defeated him, and he was always Lunarion’s mount, and the only dragon ever to allow a rider.
Elves left the Volcanic West, and seeking a land unlike it they were glad to establish in a cold land known as the Northern Tundra, there, were the Frost Dragons had destroyed the Forest of Twilight. There, the Ice Queen Elhana founded the Citadel of Ice, were she lived and reigned over her people, and had her children. She also, declared a special group of scholars, leaded by Keldurin, Lunarion’s grandson, to record history, hat moment history is known by the elves as year 1.
Lunarion, after scouting over the south seas with his dragon, discovered a crescent-shaped isle to the south of the northern tundra, where some remnants of the twilight forests remained, despite there were no faeries left, he discovered a strange and particularly beautiful horse, white and with a single horn in the front, he soon became friends with this creatures, and decided to bring more elves to that island, and founded the citadel of the moon, Lunarion was the first Moonking. He reigned in agreement with his mother, and the citadels of moon and ice, were in constant communication, and their inhabitants were like brothers, and considered them selves, as single nation.
This was the highest point in the memory of elves, their kingdoms blossomed in light and wisdom, and the white council, created by both citadels, made wise decisions, and all was good for the elves in the healthy company of unicorns.
Unified Etherian History part 5 "The decline of Elves"Edit
All things were good for the Elves in the Northern Tundra, from the year of 321, the Citadels of Ice and moon were prosperous, but their doom was about to be written, because in the same year the building of the tower of the moon was ended, and as Lunarion was crowned the first Moon King, a shadow of destiny descended over the elves, yet at first unnoticed, prince Mordaine was born. Grandson of Keldurin’s sister Elhana II, he was six generations younger than the Moon King, and despite this there was not great difference, because in that time elven spirit was strong, and their blood boiled to bring more people to their glorious midday.
There was ice in Mordaine’s eyes, and had a will of steel, few ever persuaded him of his goals. He became a scholar, and Keldurin’s student, and studied the complex arts of magic, and soon became master of arcane power. But unlike his teacher, he was more wishful to use the knowledge to get material benefits for the kingdom, rather than accumulate the knowledge, and take slow decisions, as the white council did. When he had reached maturity of mind, he entered the white council, and spoke against Keldurin’s advice, calling him a coward. There were tears in Keldurin’s heart, as he saw him become rancorous of the power he had in the council.
It occurred during those years that a great tragedy occurred, King Lunarion, feeling in solitude in his high throne, invited his mother to an exploratory expedition, as they did in the times before the first citadel. The queen accepted to come with him, but as the dragon would consent no rider but Lunarion, they took a ship through unexplored seas to the south. And here we see that Sirian’s sentences come in strange forms, because it occurred that they came through Miridine’s way, she was walking naked, over the water, a great storm, as none will be seen in these days. And it was Miridine’s naked essence that consumed them, and they never returned to the docks. But it happened that Lunarion’s dragon came unexpectedly over the storm, defying Miridine, and saved Lunarion’s soul before it was lost, and in the confrontation, his inner fire was extinguished, and the gods decided to make Lunarion the eternal guardian of his people, in honour to the friendship between him and the dragon.
After his death in the sea, the Moon King was succeeded by Keldurin, but he didn’t quit to the leadership of the council, to protect, the people from Mordaine’s unwise decisions. And according to his liking and to that of the elves, he proclaimed a period of mourning. And elves abandoned the ways of weapons, and vowed to poetry and art, Mordaine was against this decision, and wished the frontiers to be guarded, despite there had never been an attack to the Northern Tundra, these seemed a waste of time and effort to the council.
These way the elves passed many years, until a fatal day, in which a great army was seen near the citadel of Obarin, the seers knew it was an Orkish incursion, they were lead, by a brute called Gornak, who was famous for eating elves alive, though no elf has lived to confirm. The orcs descended in terrible number over the golden forest of Obarin short hours later, the only defence were a few archers, but the orcs didn’t seem wounded by arrows. Next they razed the city of Sylvallyn, and Ylarie, where Keldurin’s great libraries were lost, in a madness of fire. Gornak was approaching the gates of Elahariel, and called for the elves to surrender, but Mordaine came trough the gate, followed by the white council of mystics. There was furious and called a spell, aided by the mystics, the mountains nearby, threw Ice over the orkish army, that was frozen to death and was buried in snow, all ogres, trolls and giants, and the countless battalions of goblins were killed, and Gornak himself barely fled, and nothing was known about him for many years.
Shortly after Gornak’s attack, in 922, King Keldurin was found dead in his chambers, a dark blade in his heart, he had been killed while reading a book. None succeeded in finding the assassin, yet Mordaine would later claim to be guilty. By will, King Keldurin had chose his nephew Inarion as his successor, notwithstanding the fact that Mordaine had the same right to the throne.
King Inarion decided to form an elite group of warriors to protect the elven lands, fearful of future attacks, so he created the royal order of Moonguard, masters of the bow. Icequeen Elhana II, became worried about Keldurin’s assassination so, she founded, along Keldurin, the order of Iceguard, to protect the elven royal families. Seeing the main members of royalty made contributions to protect the elven nations, Mordaine presented to the council, the science he had been studying, summoning, that was the art of breaching through a veil in the reality, and bring strange, creatures forth, he suggested these to guard the land. But the council, seeing that daemons were evil, doubted Mordaine could control them, and also feared them, because they contrasted with everything existing there.
Three of the five elven citadels were razed by orcs, and Mordaine blamed Keldurin for this, and he was not alone, many wished him to be the king, even when he originally only wished to lead the council, soon he changed his desire of protection for one of dominion, and he defied, and killed the Moon King, in an audience. And there started the elven civil war, that raged for twelve years, and many elves were slain. Those loyal to the dead king, lead by Inarion, his legitimate successor, and those loyal to Mordaine, whose hearts had became rancorous. In the end Mordaine was defeated, and judged, the council exiled him, since the law protected those of royal family from being killed by any elf, and with him were exiled along with his people and the elven princes Eldakkar and Garranoth they left the northern tundra to found new kingdoms, due to their and rancor they became known as the dark elves, and love left them, and so did light. Then, a second group of elves, lead by king Oberon and Queen Titania, became tired of the wars, and looked for other lands with those willing to follow them. There was peace in their hearts, and they loved nature above all; they became known as the Wood Elves because they have always lived in the woods sine then and were famous for knowing the language of trees.
As for the elves that remained in the Northern Tundra they were known as the High Elves, since they resembled the best of elven memories. King Inarion grew ill seeing his people thorn apart, he died, and was succeeded by his son Ghalad.
The dark elven princes sailed south and arrived to the Isle of Dawn, there they found a strange portal that opened in the ground, with a blue, and cold shine, Mordaine found out it was the Portal of spiders and through it he made contact with the ancient spider gods Aranea and Kargoth, those formed an alliance with the Dark Elves, promising to protect them, in exchange for worship, and that they occasionally summoned them to Etheria, all dark elven princes agreed.
Mordaine and Garranoth left and continued to sail south, but Eldakkar founded a city called Yrm, and there he ruled. Mordaine discovered an island to the south, and named it after him, Mordanion, and there he remained ruling his people and studying the art of summoning. Garranoth eventually reached the main land to the south, and there he established in a dense forest, that became a dark place, filled of spiders, under his rule. Despite being far away, the three nations of dark elves were all under Mordaine’s rule, because they communicated through the nether planes.
King Oberon and Queen Titania reached the main land, and in a forest near the bay of storms, they settled, there they found that trees spoke to each other, and when they began to speak to the trees, they met strange creatures, treants, that were trees that could walk, and had tremendous strength, and vast wisdom. The eldest of these, was a very large treant called Ironbark, and he was a creation of Lurinth, and treants swore friendship to the Wood Elves. There they built their haven of Silvermyr, and a nearby peninsula in the Isle of Dawn, they built the citadel of Solhaven.
By the year of 960, there were seven nations of elves in Etheria, Ehlariel and Lunarion in the northern tundra. The dark elven cities of Yrm, Mordanion, and Doomwood. As well as the weald havens of Silvermyr and Solhaven.
If the elves have passed from slavery and darkness to glory and light, and then to discordance and hate, such has been from the beginning Sirian’s sentence for all things in the Age of the lights.
Unified Etherian History part 6 “The Origin of Men, and their Exile”Edit
Little is known about the dawn of men, only that it took place few years after elves left the dragon realms. It was in a forgotten day that, in the isle of dawn men awoke from Sirian’s mind, and they found their bodies shapeless and strange, they were surprised to see they existed, and all things seemed new and surprising.
The first men lacked any knowledge of Etheria, Sirian had granted them none, so they adopted the first manners of life they could think of, so they were barbaric, only the strongest ruled over them. At a first moment, they wished to choose a unique leader, but the various chieftains gathered their families and people, and didn’t quit to the power they had earned, not even to those stronger or wiser, so men were divided from the beginning, and they chose different paths.
They established several barbaric kingdoms in the isle of dawn, and ever since they were at war, some made war for power, some for land, some for justice, some, just defended their lands, and some made war just to spill blood over the land. But reasons were futile, and war was the only law among them, so men became less wise, and strength became their most precious good.
It occurred that during one of such seemingly endless wars, and untold terror came from the north seas, the armies fighting in the shore, stopped battling, when they saw an enormous fleet of dark vessels. They didn’t move when the boats reached the shore, neither did they, when the tall and dark elves came from them, men where in awe of this vision, because elves were had a strange beauty, turned to horror and hate. When the largest vessel touched land, three tall and impressive figures descended. Their dark majesty was so great, that several men bowed, and turned to the reverence of darkness. But the dark elves were not in those lands, merely as a visit, and the tallest of the three, claimed in deep voice that those lands belonged to him and his people.
Only then did the chieftains react, because if they feared the newcomers, they wouldn’t surrender their lands and their power, so they commanded the armies against the vessels, but elves reacted swiftly, and unleashed destructive spells and and wielded black swords, never had men confronted this terrors, and magic they feared and hated. They were decimated. But some men survived, and spread the new about the terror came from the seas. So Warlords united, as never before, and they marched with strength never seen before, because they understood they would be defeated by this enemy one by one unless they marched under a single banner.
But the elves wouldn’t be defeated by spear, axe, sword, horse, or fist, because, not only had they arcane power, but behind there was the black majesty of Mordaine, who wielded power from the nether world, the barbaric army was repelled by, black lightning, and fire and horrible daemons ate countless souls, near the newly founded tower of Yrm.
But in their despair, and when darkness had almost gained the deepest of their heats, hope appeared, the heavens opened, and Tempest came forth, in a lighting storm that fought the dark elves, white Pegasus were winning the battle field, when The dark lords, came forth from the tower of Yrm, and slew them all. Then did they speak to the rider Tempest, and declared their victory, Tempest then swore protection to men, and made use of authority and commanded the kings to let them abandon the isle in peace, and elves obeyed, yet reluctantly, because they enjoyed the art of torture.
Men were transported by tempest’s power to the mainland in Etheria, and the father of men were always apart, since they were spread over all the face of Etheria. No man was left in the island of dawn, but all men have felt a special homesickness for the land in which their first fathers woke from Sirian’s sleep. Darkness covered the memory of men from those times, and few remembered their origins, most have invented several strange stories about their origin, and believed them. Barbaric tribes all over Etheria did remember Tempest, and have always regarded him as their main god.
Unified Etherian History part 7 “Of the Dark Elves and the Sundering of Etheria”Edit
Once all men had left the isle of dawn the dark elven princes retired to the newly founded tower of Yrm, and there, from the dark heights, they began to rule their people, in a council lead by Mordaine. And few tears after, prince Garranoth made an outstanding discovery, in a hidden marsh, there was a strange pit, a blue light came from it, and it smelled like a fire feeding in some gas, revealing his discovery to the council, they found out this was a portal to the netherworlds, and trough it, the black council, made contact with two evil gods, Kargoth, the destroyer, and Aranea, the mistress of spiders. Soon they turned to the adoration of this gods, who in turn promised them the power to destroy the high elves who had exiled them.
Soon, the sorcerers received tremendous new power, from this new alliance, and they turned to the adoration of the great void and of the darkness. Also, the dark elven maidens all became priestesses to Aranea. And they raised foul arachnid creatures that infested the lands. So was that the dark elves left the path of light forever, and sealed their doom to the servitude of the dark forces. Prince Eldakkar founded the royal order of Black guards, that in resemblance to the Moonguard, was in charge of the protection of the dark elven territory, the black tower, and the black king.
Now, feeling strong, and confident of the power, granted to them by the spider gods, the dark elves began raiding the High elven land, and those were harsh battles, where, the bright elven cavalry crashed with the lines of sorcerors, and the black guard fought the Moonguard, poison and curing, magic and sword, ice and fire, light and darkness crashed, and none prevailed, only did they lessen their power and beauty.
Having found the portal of Kargoth, Garranoth gained great power, and soon he began questioning Eldakkar’s power over Yrm. Seeing the differences spreading among his captains, Mordaine made use of his authority, and proclaimed, that both him and Garranoth, would leave the Isle of Dawn to find new lands, and found new towers, to make their power greater.
So Mordaine and Garranoth left, and Mordaine arrived to an island, to the South seas, and found it beautiful, so he wished to stay there, to spoil it, and fill it with darkness and daemons, he named the island Mordanion, after himself. But Garranoth reached the mainland, and found fertile land, with some humans living in there, and they called that land Malbec, since they were the K’Malbec, the tribe of the whale, and past that land, a forest, already filled of shadows, in that forest he founded the doomwood, and it was not long before he controlled the local population of orcs.
Mordaine then began his short and magnificent reign over the three dark towers, because long leagues didn’t stop his command, neither did he need messengers, because the dark towers were in contact, via the nether planes. And in his citadel of Mordanion, he studied extensively the arts of summoning, he became a wizard of horrible power, and many daemons now bowed to him and called him master. Because elves, dark or not would never accept any dominion from dark entities, neither would they adore any daemon… or that is what they thought, because in the citadels of Yrm, and Doomwood, Aranea’s and Kargoth’s command was strongest, yet not very different to that of the kings.
However, Mordaine’s desire was not complete, he had bowed to rule over the northern tundra, and the daemons sent against the moonguard never returned to their master, so he began digging deeper, and his willpower was put to it’s limit, because he summoned daemons more and more powerfull, and controlling them was a heavy task even to the will of the most powerful elven mage ever.
So, after summoning a whole army of daemons, and seeing them be beaten by the moonguard, Mordaine decided to put an end to that war, with a last, and powerful summon; little did he know that he would put end only to his life, and to that of many others.
He called all the sorcerers in Mordanion to assist him, and they all chanted in a circle around a fire, and the fire began to loose it’s brightness, as it happened when great daemons were called, but from the fire, a rift began to form, and it grew larger, and larger, and it continued growing even when Mordaine was already trying to close it. It exploded, and the portal swallowed them, evil winds came out. The world was shaken by earthquakes, the seas changed their forms, mountains crumbled and rivers took new courses.
All creatures in Etheria felt the cataclysm, many men were left homeless, the fey were horrified, dragons hid deeper in their lairs and breathed elements in panic, there was despair in the heart of elves, and orcs had never known such panic since they had seen the sun rise for the first time.
But the consequences of Mordaine’s madness were much worse than the changing of the face of Etheria, Because from the Black Portal of Mordanion, Came the four mayor children of Balora, the four dark horsemen, Famine, Death, War, and Disease. To bring the greatest grieves to Etheria. First came Melkor, the eldest of the four, and he was the incarnation of despair, an enormous monstrosity with many legs and terrible jaws. Second was Bane, the nemesis of mortals, death, who no mortal has ever seen and told. Third was Sartek, the largest of the four, half bull half man, he had a scaled skin, and daemonic wings. Last came Antharg, the weakest of the four, he was a daemon lord half slime half man, wealding scimitars. They all left Mordanion quickly, since they found their company disgusting and horrible.
First left Sartek, to the lands north west of Etheria, and in his way he corrupted many creatures, creating harpies, gnolls, and griffons. When he arrived he corrupted the local human tribes, turning them into minotaurs, that were aggressive creatures, whose pleasure was strife, which pleased Sartek to no end. His lands became known as the realms of war.
Antharg went to the southern swampy lands south of Sserin Jungle, were he corrupted many creatures, and turned the human inhabitants into ghouls, inflicting them terrible diseases. He was soon surrounded by his favourite pets, floating eyes, that acted as messengers, spies, and soldiers.
Melkor found refuge in the plain lands of the west, where he began devouring all kinds of life, and good. Soon, all inhabitants fled, sensing the unspeakable terror of Melkor’s scourge. That lands became ruined and deserted, and there only insects and scorpions could live, and since those had not much life or souls Melkor could devour, became their servants, and they grew horribly, and adopted human forms.
Bane fled to the norther realms north to the northern tundra very close to the sea of ice, and the High elves didn’t stop him. There he founded his citadel of Mortuus, and discovered the arts of animating the dead, and commanding them, and also developed ways to transform them into more powerful creatures, all cold, all forgotten, the undead. However it was not Bane who created the undead, dark elves had already found ways to raise their dead from graves and make them slaves. And even before dark elves there were Vampires in Etheria, vampires are daemons, born of Balora’s lascivious touch with mortals, vampirism had transmitted over humans for centuries.
These four horsemen were kin, and they didn’t rest from evil, much suffering would they bring until Sirian’s day came.
Unified Etherian History part 8 “Of Lyseas, and the first Empire”Edit
Etheria had been sundered, and it’s deeds would never be as promising as before. And from the numerous disasters Mordaine caused with his horrific magic, it occurred that something new and good sprang. Because to the east of Mordanion, near the reign of Garranoth in the doomwood, lived the K’Malbec, the tribe of the whale. Legends told that they had been taken to that lands by a whale.
From the sea came tidal waves and earthquaques changed the face of the lands of Malbec, turning it into a marsh, where water became corrupt and sickly to drink, because it didn’t flow. The people there became homeless, and since the calaclysm had made the land impossible to farm. They were in the need of finding a new land to establish.
Their chief was a man named Lyseas, who was not a tall and strong warrior, as most barbaric chiefs, but a man who won most disputes through cunning plots. Lyseas convinced his people of the need of finding a new country. And he gathered men, women, and children and guided them south, initially he had the intention of going west, since it seemed to him that the disasters had came from the east. But here we see that destiny descended over him and his people, because terrible emanations had came from the sundered isle, and the stars were invisible. So they got lost in their journey, and lost they went south, to the doomwood, of which they knew little, as the affairs of the elves living there had never affected them, those had war with other nation, larger and more ancient. However, their presence in the doomwood was not unnoticed.
King Garranoth doubted, because when he stopped having news of Mordaine, and the tower of Mordanion kept silence, he sent explorers, of which only three came back to tell him daemons now ruled in Mordaine’s isle. Soon came the heralds of Eldakkar, insisting that now their friendship should be stronger, now that only. But Garranoth sent the messenger away with word of despise. And since then, Garranoth had been expecting from Eldakkar either a response or an attack.
The king ordered the humans to be slain, as he thought humans unworthy to be at the service of an elven king, little did he know that Eldakkar never thought again of Garranoth when the messenger returned, and that the humans were there because they were lost.
Initialy, Lyseas found in his way nothing but the utter darkness of the forest, the shadows there didn’t seem to be just the lack of light, but to have substance, and the trees were what scared the children the most, they were retorted in cruel branches that resembled claws. After a few days, however they became aware of the presence of spiders hidden in the shadows, and some were very large, and had to be killed with sword or spears. Warriors bitten by the spiders, became weak to the point any violence, would kill them, and they had to be carried, like old men. Spiders became larger and larger, and most warriors were poisoned and weak, only those who threw spears could kill the spiders before they approached.
They came to a clear, and there, instead of finding rest from the shadows of the trees, they found an army of dark figures. There died all children, and old men; warriors fought briefly, but poison had almost killed them already.
Lyseas, though, saved as much people as he could, and for three days they rushed through the wood, until they reached the other side, exhausted and more lost than ever. Garranoth, had been present during the battle with the humans, as he was a cruel elf, however, seeing that the men were decimated, he became aware that they could not had been sent by Eldakkar, and he didn’t order the survivors to be hunted, yet he could have done so with the wave of his sword, and the Lysean Empire would have never existed.
Because Lyseas found the land he had been looking for to the south of the Doomwood, and even when he had little people left, he founded a city several more miles south. There his people prospered as the land was fertile, and abandoned the violent manners as the city grew. This was the first place where a man ruled with the aid of law. Lyseas died an old man, and so did his son, but his grandson, seeing his land and his city was mighty and glorious, vowed to conquer all nations, and that the will of Lyseas’s heir would know no obstacle. He crowned himself Emperor, Lyseas I.
In the following centuries, the Empire would grow, and would rule many people, it’s capital would become a center of trade and knowledge, but the Empire would not grow until it reached the edge of the world, as Lyseas I had wished. Because in it’s last years, might corrupted the empire, and the dynasty became weak to the point it was the emperor who brought doom, and crumble of walls. But the story of Lyseas XVI is told elsewhere.
Unified Etherian History part 9 “Of King Khalid and the 13 Citadels”Edit
In the year 321 of the memory of elves, as the young Lunarion crowned himself, and Mordaine was born, Emrik, the lord of earth awoke once more and ascended from his unreachable residence. He saw the face of Etheria, and thought it lacked people of his creation, so he brought from his mind, the race of dwarves, that he had created long time ago.
However it is said that Emrik had not a full idea of what form he had to give them, so he made the tough, as the rock he had made them from. Among all the races that can think and make use of language, dwarves were the ones that endured most pain, elements were little threat to them, and they lived many more years than men, even when they eventually grew old and passed away. They were made short, shorter than all other races, but strong, and with great natural talent for the arts of forge, and building.
Now, when Emrik ended sculpting the first of them, he began teaching them of his knowledge, since he wished them to surpass all others in science, and make him proud.
Runes he thought them, and the magic in the symbols helped them, they adopted those as their writing, and from runes they made their language, this language they were reluctant to share, and only spoke it among themselves in the later years, but elves didn’t wish to learn it, because it sounded dull in their ears, only six runes they learned in the future years.
Several years Emrik remained with his sons, but finally he left them. Seeing the absence of their protector, they chose a king to rule them, Khalid I who was said to have been Emriks favorite, because it had been the lord of rock who had given him the Akhunatûn, the hammer of lightning, made of stone, and with the greatest might runes could give. Akhunatûn was always the symbol of dwarven royalty, along with the five stars of the dwarf-lords, and was passed from king to king.
Khalid commanded his people to found a home underground, so they didn’t live under trees like animals. So was founded the great citadel of Drak-dûm the house of dwarves. Very extense it was underground, and some of the depths found there have never been measured. There they lived and prospered by many years, growing in knowledge, and number. Because dwarves were few, at the beginning, and they have little children, and only when they are old. Few dwarves now remember the light of the starstones, shinig in the dark halls and making all shadows retreat, because the time of dwarves is not this.
Dwarves remained in this residence for several centuries, wishing to know nothing from outside, and only emerged ocationaly. Few races knew of dwarves, and few races did the dwarves know. But they were awakened from this indifference in 1032, when sundering made the halls tremble, and many tunnels collapse. Little time it took them to repair the halls, but they were not content there any more, since the runes advised them to come out, and be in guard to the new terror that had came from the west.
Khalid guided the explorers through the caves that had been opened, and found them infested of orcs and goblins, long years it took them to expel the foul inhabitants of the caves, because those were there for the same reason dwarves were not exploring in the surface, because they feared the new evil in the world.
The caves opened from Drak-dûm resulted to be extensive, and dwarves had to train runners to explore all of them. Eventually, they began founding new citadels resembling drak-dûm, but at the same time unique. 13 Citadels that marked the Pinnacle of Dwarven culture and civilization.
First was founded Khaz-Agar, near a land known as Agaria, and then near the Giantridge Mountains, the citadel of Khaz Tarn was built.
Khaz-Elenak, near a group of Humans known as the K’Elenak. In later years near Khaz Agar they founded Barad-Dumyr, to protect themselves from the orc incursions from Kor.
North from Drak-Dûm, the citadel of Zhur was founded in middle of a volcano, in an island of Ilean Bay.
South, within the depths of Sserin Jungle, Khaz Barak, were they found a new and wonderful metal, Mithril, as silver, but much valuable than gold, and hard as the best steel,
Baraki Mithril was a a great treasure among all Etherian Lords.
In the Far North the citadel of Duernoth was built within the White Mountains past the Plains of Ar, and very near the citadel of Khalil.
In far away lands unbeknownst to most, other citadels were founded, Khaz argoth,
Dhar khosis, and Khorinbar.
Last, and many years later, the 13ª citadel was built by the dark dwarves, very far away from the home of dwarves, to the west of Etheria, no tunnel communicated it with the other citadels, dark and forgotten Khaz Tor.
Dwarves feel an untellable love to their culture, and at these times they were proud and dreamed of the eternity of Khalid’s heir, but now, a steam of bitter sorrow covers their hearts, as they’ve seen their culture decline and slowly disappear.
Unified Etherian History part 11 “The tale of Marthos, and the Agarian Kingdoms”Edit
Emrik had made his appearance in Etheria for the last time, and for countless years he dwelled beneath his rocky domains. The dwarves had to face the sundering without aid of any kind, and they came out from their ancestral home. In one their many voyages it occurred that they came out in a mountain, to the north, and there they saw the great fertile lands of Agaria, three rivers, one to the north, going from the mountains to the bay of. Nearer, two rivers sprang from the mountains, they joined soon and continued to the bay of storms, and they saw that the land between these two rivers was more beautiful than those more far away. To the west other two rivers blossomed, joined, and ran together to the bay of storms, and more to the west, forests laid.
Dwarves settled in those mountains, because in their hearts they knew that their presence was required, and that many important things had to be seen in those lands.
And the did not mistake theirselves, because in Agaria lived five tribes, the chosen children of Sirian, because these people were destined to have a very important part in Etheria’s doom, and in the solution of ancient strifes.
They were the K’Irin, the tribe of the of the Unicorn, because the lands where they had settled, was rumored to be inhabited by Unicorns, and they were wise and beautiful.
The K’Eira, the tribe of the Axe, who inhabited northern Agaria, past their frontier was Troll country, where orcs were mostly ruled by Trolls, so they were gruff people, who had fought the trolls for many years.
In the center, was the K’Bar, the tribe of the Golden Crown inhabited the largest region, and having no wars other than those with the other tribes, they were the most numerous.
To the south, within the joining of two rivers lived the K’Ildan, who were mistrusted by the other tribes.
To the west, within the forests lived the K’Elenak, the tribe of the Oak, who favoured bows, and defended their domain with the stealth of arrows shot from trees.
But in the story of Agaria there is Name that must be named before all others, Marthos, who was a young man in the time the dwarves founded their citadel of Khaz Agar. He was a close friend of the chief of the K’Irin, and he left Agaria, because he had felt in his heart the call of Sirian, and to reach his destiny. He left to the South, feeling that evil came from there and so he arrived through no paths to the Lysean Empire.
But in Agaria, they knew nothing of him for many years, so they considered him dead, because the exploring mission was supposed to last only a year. In a year, he only arrived to the Lysean Empire, where he was received as an ambassador, there he lived several years, and saw the great majesty of Lyseas VIII. There he learned much about civilization, government and trade.
But when he felt his time there was over, and he wished to return, he could not find the way, and the imperials could only guide him to Drak-Dûm, where he lived for a few years as well, because the home of Dwarves was more magnifiscient than any palace built by men.
But when once more he remembered Agaria, and the dwarves attempted to guide him to Khaz Agar, they were ambushed by gnolls. Dwarves had never seen such creatures, and they were all killed, and Marthos never reached Khaz Agar, but was not killed either he got lost in the caves, and chased by gnolls he reached the woods of Yrm.
Because the caves had gided him beneath long leagues of sea. He hid within the shadows, but was captured by dark elves, but Eldakkar did not dare kill him or put him in a prison, instead he was kept as a hostage, and he lived amongst dark elves for a year, and this was the part of his adventure he liked the least. When he finally asked the king to free him, he was loathe but finaly agreed.
However dark elves did not honor him with a single escort, and Marthos wandered through the Isle of Dawn, meeting elves here and there, and fighting ocational orcs. In one of many days he met King Oberon, who ruled Solhaven, and he was invited to the woods. There he became a master of the bow, and the wood elves were impressed to see a mortal shoot an arrow almost as high as Oberon himself. But Sirian called Marthos again, and he wished once more to return to the house of his parents. But Oberon would not bring any boat to the shores of men, because he considered them dangerous, and barbaric, and he was not far away from the truth. Instead he conducted him to Lunarion, the house of the Moonking.
Once more, Marthos remained in a foreign country, and he felt fortunate to have reached that land, where no sadness seemed to reach. There he learned the most important lesson, because the high elves knew about the gods, and they told him about Sirian, and the ancient combat of light and darkness, and he worshiped light. Above all, he gained his own sense of justice and honor, that was new and surprising for the elves.
Marthos finaly returned to Agaria, in a golden ship, he sailed to the shores of the K’Bar. He was received like a divinity, because he was now more beautiful than twenty years ago, when he had left to the south. The chiefs gathered, to council with him when the heard he pretended to stay, and that he claimed to be Marthos, the explorer.
He spoke to them about his adventures, of civilization, and of the great races and cultures he had known. And in few years the way of life in Agaria was changed forever, because they adopted all the civilized manners of the Empire, and forged coins, improved the roads, the government was now aided by law, and the chiefs were crowned, and now the royal families were respected. They learned to use metals properly, and began to favor cavalry as war method.
More over, they gave themselves former names, the Agarian Kingdoms of: The Siria, Theria, Bartonia, Elenia, and Gildor. They founded the Agarian orders of knighthood, with the aid of Marthos. The Agarian Knights mounted strong war horses heavily armored, and favoured the sword as their weapon, they even worshiped swords, because it’s a sword what Sirian wields as a weapon.
Something has not been said of the nature of the Agarian Kingdoms, because of all the lands where Marthos lived and learned, each Kingdom took the knowledge that seemed more like their nature, and they acted accordingly ever after.
